Going on a small trip to Montreal on Friday with J. Will have about 4 hours to fill by myself and I thought I’d go to the Fine Arts Museum. When I looked up their current exhibitions, I got excited to see there would be a Toulouse Lautrec one as I love his work a lot. Unfortunately, my joy was quickly dashed when I realised that the exhibition was opening the very next day, on Saturday. I’m really bummed I’m missing it by a day.
.
So I spend a lot of time today looking at his work online. It doesn’t make up to seeing it in real life, but it’s something at least. Sometimes I really really miss studying art history–looking at it, talking about it, writing about it (okay, that’s 100% nostalgia talking on that last one, I’ve always hated writing essays). I miss immersing myself in it.
.
There will still be lovely exhibitions to see when I go (including an interesting-looking one on Pompeii).

“She brought herself away from the disagreeably clinging thought by her usual method – imagining the sweet sharp sensation of being burned alive.”

We Have Always Lived in the Castle is one of my favourite books. Last fall, just in time for Halloween, I read The Haunting of Hill House. And now, this one. Shirley Jackson is haunting and masterful and I love her.

Been listening to a lot of Joanna Newsom lately. Mostly The Milk-Eyed Mender as it’s my favourite, but Good Intentions Paving Company has been pretty consistently on repeat.

Also. I’ve been locked out of my tumblr and so far there’s nothing I can do to get back in. I may have just lost a connection to something I’ve had since 2008 with a lot of personal stuff on it. I’m hoping this instagram will cross-post correctly so at least people will know. I’m working on it, trying to get back in, but I don’t know how long it’ll take. Love you all xxx.
